Congress Isn’t Really Done With Health Care – Just Look At What’s In The Tax Bills

Congressional Republicans may have failed to repeal the Affordable Care Act (ACA), but that hasn’t stopped them from trying to undermine the health care law through other means, writes Julie Rovner for Kaiser Health News.

Now, instead of tackling the ACA directly, they are embedding provisions in their tax bills that will leave millions of people uninsured, raise health care costs and trigger cuts to the social safety net, including Medicare.

The House passed its version of the tax bill last month, and the Senate could vote as early as today on its tax bill. Moderate Republicans in the Senate who earlier helped uphold the health care law have signaled that they will likely support the tax legislation.

States Sound Warning That Kids’ Health Insurance Is At Risk

Meanwhile, Congress has still not reauthorized funding for the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) which covers some 9 million children, reports Selena Simmons-Duffin for NPR.

The program primarily covers working-class families.

Congress allowed funding for CHIP to expire in September. Now, states are warning families that their coverage may soon be ending.
